China Taiwan Post is operated and managed by the "General Post Office" under the "Department of Transportation". The "General Post Office" consists of the "Postal Administration" and the "Postal Deposit and Remittance Bureau" in the north, central and southern districts. Under the "Postal Administrations" in various districts, post offices and branch offices at all levels have been established, as well as post offices and sales agencies that entrust private agencies. By the end of 1997, there were 13,961 postal institutions in Taiwan (the largest number in 1996, 14638), with an average service area of 30 square kilometers and an average population of 17,000. The business scope of the postal service in Taiwan, China mainly includes letters, parcel receipt and delivery, deposits, exchange and simple life insurance, etc.
