Japan Post started in 1871, and Japan postal services are divided into three categories: postal services, savings, and simple insurance. The three major businesses have separate accounting and independent accounting. Japan Post used to be a typical state-run system, and it has carried out two reforms in recent years. In January 2001, the original Ministry of Posts, the Department of General Affairs and the Autonomous Province formed the Ministry of General Affairs. On April 1, 2003, Japan Post formally abolished the Post Office of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications and established the Japan Post Corporation. Its establishment is the largest reform of the Japanese postal industry in 132 years. Japan Post is a self-financing, state-owned public company whose goal is to provide comprehensive and fast mail and parcel delivery services, simple and safe savings and exchange services, and simple insurance services, while retaining universal services.
